All websites on the internet have a specific number to identify them, and these numbers are called IP addresses, which come as a group of numbers, for example 192.168.1.1 It would be difficult for users to remember the numbers of a particular website, so instead the website uses a name that is linked to the IP number - hence the need for domain names.

› How much is domain name registration?

The cost of a .com, .net or .org domain name is 500 baht per year. Domains that use .co.th,.in.th,.go.th,.or.th,.ac.th,or.th are 1600 baht for 2 years.

› Who is responsible for the cost of domain registration?

You are.

If you pay for it, you own it.

› Are there any restrictions on domain name registrations?

You can create your domain name using letters and numbers and hypens (-). Other symbols such as exclamation marks (!) and commas are not valid.

Please note that you cannot begin your domain name with a hyphen(-).

› How long can my domain name be?

It must not be longer than 67 characters, including the ".com"

› Can I have the same domain name as someone else?

No, this is not possible. Before you register a domain name you must check for the availability of that domain name, if it is available then you are able to register that domain (click here)

› I've already got a domain name - what do I have to do to have my website hosted by VhostWeb?

When you become a customer of VhostWeb you must change the DNS settings of your domain name, so that it is pointed to your new domain name servers which are at ns1.vhostthailand.com, ns2.vhostthailand.com. You can do this by logging into your domain name management system and changing it.

* We can do this for you if you wish, but you need to provide us your username and password for your domain name management system. And you need to reply to the email that is sent by the registrar of the domain to confirm the change. We are not responsible for this process.

It usually takes between 3-7 days for ISP's worldwide to update the change of the settings to your new DNS settings.

› What next do I have to do after I got my domain name?

› Can I transfer my domain to Vhostweb?

Yes, you can. You can do this by clicking here. Please note that your domain must be valid and not due to expire in less than 30 days.

› How much does it cost to transfer a domain name to VhostWeb?

We do not charge for the domain transfer, but you are required to pay for your domain registration for another year (450 Baht per year:price not including 7% VAT). For example if you transfer your domain to VhostWeb and it will expire in 2 months time (30 August, 2003) and you pay the 450 baht domain registration fee, VhostWeb will automatically extend your registration for 12 months from 30 August, 2003 to expire on 30 August, 2004.

› How does ID Protect help reduce spam?

Your visible email address is constantly changing, so while it is being harvested and redistributed, it will change and the previous address will no longer work for the spammer. The Domain Privacy Protection Service (an affiliate of vhostweb.com) secures and maintains your real email address on file so you receive important information regarding your domain.

› What if I need to prove ownership of a domain?

You have the ability to temporarily disable the ID Protect service through your domain control panel. Turn off the service and then ask the verifying party to confirm whois registration details at http://www.enom.com/domains/whois.asp. Once complete, you may turn the ID Protect service back on through your domain control panel.

No, we do not. For security reasons you are not able to install other applications onto the server.

Please note, however, that if you wish to use some commercially available software, we may be willing to install this software onto the server.

› What is the server clock time?

This is set to Thailand Standard Time. This is for the convenience of our web statistics applications.

› Can I upload data 24 hours a day?

Yes, you can.

› What scripts does VhostWeb support?

› Who is responsible for uploading files to the server?

It is your responsibility to upload the files to the server. You can learn how to do that here.

› What if I forget my password to login?

› If I want SSL Certification for my website, what do I need to do?

We can assist you to receive the certification from THAWTE (www.thawte.com)
Please note that you will be required to use the Business Plan or higher and transfer your domain to our server so that we can make a Key Certificate Signing Request to Thawte. Other required documents include your Companies Registration approval by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and documents of your domain name ownership which can be printed from the WHOIS website.

The cost of setting up the SSL key for your website is 2,500 Baht and the THAWTE web server certificate costs US$199.

A minimum payout of 500 Baht is required. If this amount is not reached within the month, then it will be rolled-over to the next month, and will continue to build, until the minimum amount is reached.

Since technical difficulties do occasionally arise, if you encounter a banner or text link that is broken, please notify us at affiliate@vhostweb.com. We will resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Yes, you can earn commissions for up to 1 year after someone fist clicks through to VhostWeb. Let's say someone does not purchase their web hosting the first time they visit VhostWeb. Rather they return, a day, a week or within one year without starting at your site. You will still earn a commission on the sale because they first found us through your link. Or they may buy the first time and return to purchase hosting for another web site. You will still be credited with sale and receive the commission

› How are sales tracked?

Sales are tracked using cookies that expire after 12 months. So even if you refer a client to the VhostWeb site and they do not purchase straight away, if they return within the time frame, you will still be credited with the sales commission.
